ABSTRACT

Introduction: Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) is a wound care technology widely used in the treatment of complex wounds such as diabetic foot infections and pressure ulcers. The aim of this study is to examine the global research trends in the field of NPWT from 1997 to 2025 using bibliometric methods, including productivity, institutional contributions, and emerging research topics.
Material and methods: This study is a bibliometric research using Web of Science database data. R Biblioshiny program was used for the analysis.
Results: A total of 2,438 publications were analysed. The USA led with the most research output (n=1,660) and total citations (n=21,068), followed by China (n=668) and Germany (n=395). The most productive institutions was Lund University (n=77). International Wound Journal published the most articles (n=168), while Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery had the highest h-index (30). With an annual growth rate of 11.39%. The evolution of keywords had moved from technical words like “vacuum-assisted closure” (n=828) to clinical information such as “risk factors,”“surgical complications” in recent time span.
Conclusions: The analysis of research productivity shows a high concentration of leading institutions in Sweden and the USA. But more extensive global collaborations are needed.
